Product Description

How does a bio sponge filter work?

Attach a sponge filter to a 3/16 inch airline connected to an air pump. A continuous flow of air bubbles rises from the top of the filter and disperses into the fish tank. Dirty water is drawn into the small filter through gaps, where a fine sponge traps fish waste, decaying plants, and debris. Bio balls within the filter provide ample surface area for beneficial bacteria colonies to thrive. Ultimately, clean water is pushed out from the top of the filter. This dual mechanical and biological filtration system ensures sparkling clean water while agitating the water surface with gentle bubbles.

For optimal performance, pairing the filter with a powerhead or water pump accelerates debris filtration, speeding up tank cleaning. If the bubble noise is bothersome, a less powerful air pump can be used to reduce noise levels. Suction strength depends on the air pump's capacity.
